Laura Hink is currently a senior at North Branch High School. She has been a member of the St. Francis/North Branch JV/Varsity girls hockey team since she was a sophomore, when she appeared in 25 varsity games. Laura came back the following season and played in 25 of her team’s games once again as a junior, however most of her time was spent playing JV. Going into her senior season she really wanted to dedicate herself to hockey and committed to come train with us here at FHIT hockey. The MAP/FHIT hockey staff soon realized that Laura was very serious about improving her game and wanted to make a bigger impact for her team during the upcoming season. She would show up every day with a positive and infectious attitude, with her main focus being on her development as a hockey player. Hink was able to translate all that training into on-ice success for her senior season. She recorded her first points as a varsity high school hockey player. Laura was able to register 2 goals and 3 assists in 24 games played during the 2019-2020 campaign. She became a reliable part of the team, playing in all situations. Also, Laura led her team in shorthand goals with both of her tallies coming with the team on the penalty kill. Some more exciting news came to her after the season as well, as she recently committed to play Division III college hockey for Northland College (Ashland, WI) beginning next fall. Congratulations- Laura! The MAP/FHIT hockey staff is extremely proud of Hink and excited to continue pushing her to reach all of her futuristic goals.
How many years have you been in the MAP/FHIT program? and what is your favorite part about the program?
This summer will be my 2nd year in the program, though I wished I had joined sooner. My favorite part about the program is that you’re always with the same people. You get to know each other throughout the spring/summer. You make friends and the coaches know your weaknesses and are able to help you with them.
What is your greatest accomplishment in hockey so far?
My greatest accomplishment so far would be moving on to the next level of playing for hockey. I’ve committed to play Dlll women’s hockey for Northland College next fall.
What is your dream goal in hockey?
My dream goal in hockey would be getting that game winning goal in an important game.
Favorite pro or college player?
My favorite pro hockey player is Mikko Koivu.
Favorite game-day routine?
My favorite game day routine would be the bus ride to an away game or in the locker room during the JV game. We’re all sitting around talking to each other, laughing, taping sticks and listening to music.
Favorite off-season (non-hockey) activity?
My favorite offseason activity is going hiking, hammocking and going up to the cabin for a weekend to relax.
